Sometimes the kid that draws becomes the explorer, the storyteller, the concept builder and the image maker. Being an illustrator means choosing the scenic route through life, imaginary worlds, in space, down a rabbit hole or on cloud nine.
I’m an illustrator, author, coffee lover, DIY’er, a positively optimistic creative type and author of Breaking Into Freelance Illustration: the guide for artists, designers, and illustrators. I was creatively schooled at NSCAD University in Halifax, Nova Scotia and I’ve been an illustrator for over 20 years. My style is a colourful mixture of textures, lines and dots created traditionally and digitally with a focus on children’s illustration, lifestyle, food & drink, humour & cartoons, character design, Teen & Young Adult, and Animals, Wildlife & Nature.
Top 5 favourite things: coffee, cool vintage collections, sand and surf, gouache and books.
Favourite quote: “When one man, for whatever reason, has the opportunity to lead an extraordinary life, he has no right to keep it to himself” -Jacques-Yves Cousteau.
Favourite things about illustration: working at home, the process, mentoring, endless learning, drawing, and doodling.
What you’ll always hear me say: “Write that down!”
